How To Apply for Veteran Benefits:
- Submit electronic application via VETS.gov
- Student receives Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and submits to Financial Aid
- Student must submit Enrollment Certification VA
Most Commonly Used Benefits:
Chapter 30: Montgomery GI Bill–Active Duty
- Students must use the WAVE Program to verify enrollment
Chapter 1606 – Montgomery GI Bill-Selected Reserve
- Monthly Payment Rates is paid to the student
- Students must use the WAVE Program to verify enrollment
Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 GI Bill
- Chapter 33 Programs:
- Transfer of Entitlement – individual approved by Department of Defense to transfer benefits
- Fry Scholarship – children and spouses of service members who died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001
- Tuition and Mandatory Fees – net cost after the application of any waiver, scholarship or annual cap
- Payments paid directly to school; housing allowance books & supplies (up to $100 per semester) allowance paid directly to student
Chapter 35 – Dependents Education Assistance (DEA)
- Available to spouse, surviving spouse or dependent child of veteran
- Monthly Payment Rates is paid to the student based on the number of days certified
